Moderation filters help keep the discussions on your SoapBox positive. This is where you set the rules and manage the words that are blocked or flagged for review.

How To Set Moderation Filters 

To set Moderation rules, go into “Settings” > “Ideas” > “Moderation”



Here you can set up moderation rules specific to your community. Every community will have a generic list of swear words by default. If you’d like to see this list, contact your CSM for more details. 

A) Label - A brief description of your filter. You must have a label in order for that moderation rule to be saved.
B) Filter Keywords - The words that will be caught by the filter you’ve set up if they’re used anywhere in SoapBox.
C) Action - Here’s where you choose which action you’d like SoapBox to take when Filter Keywords are detected: ​


Block - The idea or comment will show up in the Manage tab under Moderation and will not be visible to users on the Ideas page. Only the ideator will see their idea or comment on the ideas page but it will have a notice on it saying it was placed in the moderation queue.
Block & Notify - The idea or comment will show up in the Manage tab under Moderation and the assigned admin will be sent an email to let them know that the idea or comment has been moderated. The idea or comment will not be visible to users on the Ideas page. The ideator will see a note on the idea or comment saying that it has been flagged for moderation. 
Flag - The idea or comment will show up in the Manage tab under Moderation, but it will still be visible to users on the Ideas page. 
Flag & Notify - The idea or comment will show up in the Manage tab under Moderation and the assigned admin will be sent an email to let them know that the idea has been moderated. The idea or comment will still be visible to users on the Ideas page.

​Tip: It is not recommended to use “Block” unless the words are highly sensitive. As much as possible, we’d like to avoid making users feel like they are being censored. 

D) Admin - Choose the admins to be notified if “Flag & Notify” or “Block & Notify” are selected. They will be sent an email notification whenever any of the Filter Keywords are detected. If no admins are selected no admins will be notified. 



E) Delete - To delete a moderation rule, hover over the rule and click the trash can which will appear on the far right beside the Admin dropdown. 


How To Moderate Ideas



This is where admins can view all ideas and comments that have been flagged or blocked for moderation.
 
Clicking the “✔” approves the idea or comment, which allows it to be seen if blocked and removes it from the moderation queue. The ideator will receive an email notification that their idea has been approved.
 
Clicking the “X” removes the idea from the ideas page if flagged and removes it from the moderation queue. You will be prompted to provide a reason for disapproving the idea, which is displayed in the email notification that the ideator receives notifying them that their idea has been disapproved.
